Post-Conference ExcursionThe 4 day post conference excursion will feature an opportunity to experience both the environment and culture of Australia's South-West and Outback, and also some of the mining and mine water issues and solutions of other mining types and in other parts of the state. Australia is a big place! But travelling in a safe and comfortable tour bus you will see a lot of it on this tour and learn a lot about it's people, wildlife and it's mining industry too. A proposed, draft itinerary is included below. The total cost (meals, accommodation, transport and all entry fees) is $1,510/person single, or $1,290/person twin share.
Day 1 - Friday Bunbury – Collie – Williams – Hyden: Scenic south-west jarrah forests through to Wave Rock, Hippo's Yawn and Mulka's Cave (Bates Cave).
Day 2 - Saturday Hyden – Kalgoorlie: 19th century mining boom towns that are world famous when gold was discovered in 1893 by Paddy Hannan, an Irish Explorer. The arid "Outback" landscape, and "Kal's" historic pubs both contemporary and historic mining culture.
Day 3 - Sunday Kalgoorlie – Southern Cross: Explore the many interesting tourist spots in Kalgoorlie including the Mining Hall of Fame, KCGM 'Super pit' open cut mine, Kalgoorlie Museum, St Mary’s Church, Royal Flying Doctor Service Visitor Centre and the historic character district of Hay Street.
Day 4 - Monday Return to Perth, travelling on the Great Eastern Highway with stops at the historic Perth-Kalgoorlie pipeline pumphouse, Meckering, Mundaring Weir. 371 km, back at Perth Airport by 5:00 pm and Perth City by around 6:30 pm.
